Pro Caulk Infomercial Review

Has anyone out there seen the infomercial for Pro Caulk? It is this piece of rubber with a bunch of different angled edges that allows you to seal your own bathtub, sink, tiles…etc. Not only does it look like something I could make out of an old bike tire, but also the infomercial kind of makes me laugh a bit. I guess true to any infomercial form, the Pro Caulk infomercial illustrates how “hard” life was before Pro Caulk and how easy like can be once you have it.

Think back to all the infomercials you have seen. Whether that be some storage space saver or hair pinup thingamajigger. What do they all have in common? Illustrations of frustrated people making a mess out of something simple, then showing off the said product to make you believe that it will solve your problems. The Pro Caulk infomercial is no exception. It shows a man covered up to his elbows in caulking trying desperately to get a professional looking seal around his tub. Well, I have caulked a few tubs in my day and let me tell you, it really isn’t that hard.

Do I think that the Pro Caulk will make caulking a little easier than it was in the past? You better believe I do. Like I said, I never found caulking all that hard, but this little piece of rubber or whatever it is, does look like it will simplify the process a bit.

I was just surprised that the extras that they tacked on at the end of the infomercial didn’t involve some sort of super bright key chain flashlight that helps you see the keyhole in doors or light up menus in restaurants. Really?

Ez Comb: Infomercial Review

I was sitting there watching early-morning TV the other day when, of course, an infomercial came on. What are people thinking when interrupting great tv shows with dumb commercials. I guess these days is all about making the money. What really perplexed me was this was action show, more for men, the product was called EZ Comb. A hair-hair product that makes it easy to put your hair up in dozens of styles. Well, thanks, but I wear a macho mullet cut.

Ok, so maybe my wife would like it then. I watched on. The EZ comb, a comb or hair band which ever you choose to call it, is made out of elastic with a comb like design on each end. It allows you to create these hair styles that I admit are kind of sexy. But I didn't quite get the need for a “style guide.” At one point they talk about, and show, how easy it is to create a butterfly effect with the EZ Comb by just twisting it around once. Ok. So if it's so simple, why the need for the Style Guide? I'm puzzled.

This commercial does definitely show that men and women have different values. They showed a similar comb device you could get—for $38. $38? !? I could buy my wife rope to tie her hair up for that price! But my wife nodded her head as though she knows $38 is common—and the $10 for the EZ Comb is a bargain.

Oh note to the commercial producers: Get a better spokeswoman next time. This one whines all the way through. “OOOOOOH NOOOOOO!” she started the commercial, as my ears bled.

Petzoom Pet Park Infomercial Review

My buddy and I were in a hurry yesterday and it was raining. He had been gone all day and while he was getting ready he asked me to take his dog out to pee. Well, lets just say I stood in the rain for the next ten minutes while his rather adorable beagle named Cooper found just the right spot. Then today I saw the infomercial for the Petzoom Pet Park. An artificial piece of turf designed to go inside and let dogs use the “facilities” whenever they need to. Funny how life works, huh?

Any who, according to the infomercial this pad is perfect for apartments, (I agree) people who work all day and don’t want to leave their dog locked up (I agree again), people who live in cold environments and don’t want to take their dog outside (I still must agree) and the easy house training of puppies. (What?) Whoa, hold on. I do agree that it would be useful in the puppy-training phase but to say it makes it easy. I don’t think that anything is going to make it easy. My dog is one step down from “Marley” and although I love him dearly and wouldn’t change anything about him, to say that doing anything with him could be easy just makes me laugh to my self.

One more thing about these Petzoom Pet Park pads, (whew say that five time fast) the only dogs they show in the infomercial are pocket sized dogs and ankle biters. Can we really call these dogs? Half of those little balls of fur would be a snack for my slobbering mountain of a dog. I would be interested to see if that pad could hold what he is supplying. They did use a gallon of water as an example but I bet my mutt could really put it to the test.
