MIRACLE FOOT REPAIR SOLUTION: InfomercialI could be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure that one of the first rules about creating an effective commercial is that you don't want to drive away your viewers in the first five seconds in revulsion. But those ugly, yucky feet on the Miracle Foot Repair Solution infomercial do just that. And they nearly did me...except I kind of have a thing for feet.
But these...these are just gruesome. And the commercial is insulting too. I was offended when the announcer practically yelled, "your feet give off a strong odor!" Hey, only my wife can tell me that, loser!
Really, this commercial couldn't decide if it wanted to disgust you with a parade of ugly, deformed feet, or if it wanted to seduce you. Witness the couple of shots of a beautiful woman sensually rubbing one foot against her other leg. Witness the one scene where the beautiful woman is playing footsy with her ugly husband (She could have done much better).
And then--BAM--back to Grandma and Grandpa's corns and Athlete's Foot. And by the way, they should have given acting lessons to Grandma and Grandpa before shooting this spot. Or at least reading lessons. As Grandpa stiltedly reads, "I -- FIND -- THAT -- THIS -- CREAM -- IS -- WHAT --I -- NEED -- TO -- MAKE -- MY -- FEET -- SMOOTH," you can't help wonder if this is a robot or he just needs better glasses to see the cue cards.
Now that I've sufficiently slammed this commercial, let me point out that the product itself is great. It does just what it's advertised to do, at a great price--and in fact, it might do it even better than advertised. I know, because I use Miracle Foot Repair Solution. But having said that, let me promise you one thing: I will never try to promote it by showing you how ugly my feet were in the past. That's just not very nice. And by the way, contrary to what Mr. Announcer says, my feet smell just fine, thank you.
